Newbie from SLC

Thank you for the opportunity to express my prog thoughts on a website dedicated to the best prog band of the new millenium. I grew up listening to Yes, ELP, Gentle Giant, early Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Jethro Tull, Camel, PFM and Pink Floyd. My tastes wander through a plethora of bands and styles, but I always return to my prog roots. Todays proggers I enjoy Porcupine Tree of course TFK, RPWL, Sylvan, Radiohead, Pineapple Thief (my current favorite listen) Echolyn and the heavier prog sounds of Dream Theater. I also enjoy World music which I also find progressive as Afro Celt, Shooglenifty and The Peatbog Faeries. I am always on the lookout for new music and as i approach the ole 50 mark in age this year I still have the same enthusiasm for music as I did when I was 14 listening to my vinyl records. I am currently living in Salt Lake City UT.( 6 years) originally from Northern California. i am interested in starting a prog music society here in SLC similar to one the have in Colorado. It is a group of prog aficionados that get together at a local pub on a monthly basis and listen to prog music and social over a few brews and food. If interested please respond on this forum and i will get back to you.

Nice intro! Good to have you here!!
Im living in Germany so i cant really help you over there but i wish you all the best for your project!!! It sounds very nice!

I also like Wold music. Gabriel of course :) But more the fusion/experimental site of it.
At the moment im listening a lot to Yoko Kanno (soundtrack/div) and Esperanza Spalding (jazz/world) and lots of indie (annuals) which comes also very close to world music sometimes.

Pineapple Thief

Postby Riocard » 28 Jan 2009, 17:25

Pineapple Thief are a band from England. They have released their 7th album titled "Tightly Unwound". Their sound can be compared to Radiohead and some of the more atmospheric prog that Porcupine Tree plays. They are the type of band that takes a few listens, but their sound and especially the production has gotten better with each release. Instead of rambling on I utilize the web site progarchives.com to find out information about every prog band and style there is. You can find out alot about Pineapple Thief and even some old favorites that you may have forgotten about.
