Thanks!!... i really love this cover....!! ;)
ehhhmmm ofcourse i meant to say that i dig the music of White Willow a lot specially because they
still use the mellotron(s) as a key-instrument in their music, didn't know at all that this side-project
was in the works...!

Do you know the band 'Nordagust' (also from Norway) if you don't try their 1st album 'In the mist of morning'
you might also like that one. I was lucky to see them play live last year at the Prog'66 Meeting in Verviers/Belgium
although they didn't bring a real 'tron' but used samples during that gig their show was quite impressive.

Well, thanks for the suggestion. I will try that right away!

By the way, Ardor is the second Opium Cartel album. It is brand new, in fact I think the release date is later this month (I've preordered it).

Their first album was released in 2009, Night Blooms:

Their music is more pop-oriented, with hints of prog, and various styles and singers!! Very cool, in fact.

White Willow is another beast. One of my top 10 bands of all-time!

Well, it arrived today - Desolation Rose! Now, believe it or not, I'm not going to play it till the weekend! Yes, I'm dying to hear it, but I've been working extra hours the last couple of days and if I play it straight away, I know I won't take it in properly. At the weekend I will have time to relax and listen to it properly. ;)

I've finally decided to buy the first Haken album (Aquarius), even though I find it to be weaker than the two last albums... but it has some great moments all the way through! ;)

Preorder of the new Karmakanic live album from their Rosfest performance from 2012. I was there and it was amazing. I'm very pleased Reingold Records is releasing this.

Max, I can't say that I'm familiar with all the artists on your list, but judging by those that I know I must say I surely am envious of the variety of your musical diet.

This will very likely cost me the last dwindling remains of my faltering prog credibility, but what the heck -

Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes, Frettening Behaviour - excellent country-tinged rock 'n' roll by one of the most amazing guitar players around

Yellow Ostrich - Cosmos

Although not really prog-related, this is a rock solid effort from a band you should hear.

Love all that indie! St. Vincent, Mac DeMarco, Real Estate, Cloud Nothings (from my home state of Ohio), Kurt Vile. Nice!

Here are some other indie records released this year that you might enjoy: Spoon, Popstrangers, Together Pangea, Sleepy Sun, Liars, Quilt, Warpaint, Bombay Bicycle Club, Owls, Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Swans, Parquet Courts, War On Drugs.

Check these out and let me know what you think!!!

Thanks for the recommendations!

-Spoon, I know the Transference album, seemed alright, new album might be a must buy.
-Swans, I have the new album, ok, but I'm more curious on getting my hands on their older works
(filth)
-War on drugs: I have this album, might be a classic :).
Warpaint: I've heard their debut once, didn't really click at the time, what I've just heard sounds like an indie rock version of MIA ^^.
Ty segall: I've heard a lot people talking positive about this, but never took the time to check; the album teaser is sweet ^^.
popstrangers, parquet courts, owls also seem very interesting

So if I did my research well, these are the albums I might listen more to and perhaps even buy:
Popstrangers - fortuna
Together Pangea - badillac
Sleepy sun - Maui tears
Liars - mess
Quilt - held in splendor
Warpaint - ,,
Bombay Bicycle club - so long, see you tomorrow
Owls - two
Thee oh sees - drop
Ty Segall - manipulator
Cymbals eat guitars - LOSE
Spoon - They want my soul

Btw Ty Segall teaser:

Re: What's the last CD you bought?

Postby projeKct » 02 Feb 2015, 01:53

Well, back in October 2014, I've bought:

A.C.T - Today's report - 1999
A.C.T - Imaginery friends - 2001
A.C.T - Last epic - 2003
A.C.T - Silence - 2006
A.C.T - Circus pandemonium - 2014
Major Parkinson - Major Parkinson - 2008
Major Parkinson - Songs from a solitary home - 2010
Major Parkinson - Twilight cinema - 2014
Premiata Forneria Marconi - Paper Charms - The Complete BBC Recordings 1974-1976 [2CD/DVD] - 2014

A.C.T is so cool... I wasn't convinced at first, but after lots of spins it appears to be a powerful band with great composition skills, excellent guitarist, fantastic singer(s)...
Major Parkinson is very weird but refreshing! I like it A LOT!!!
PFM Paper Charms is a nice addition to my collection.

Then, in November-December 2014:

Arcade Fire - Reflektor [2CD] - 2013
Barracuda Triangle - Electro shock therapy - 2014
Echolyn - As the world [CD/DVD] - 1995
Kaipa - Sattyg - 2014
King Crimson - The elements - 2014 tour box [2CD] - 2014
McDonald and Giles - McDonald and Giles - 1971
Neal Morse - Testimony 2 [2CD] - 2011
Neal Morse - Testimony 2: Live in Los Angeles [3CD/2DVD] - 2011
Neal Morse - Momentum [CD/DVD] - 2012
Rubblebucket - Survival sounds - 2014
Transatlantic - KaLIVEoscope [3CD/DVD] - 2014

Barracuda is interesting, not the greatest TFK-related release, but a different one.
Echolyn's As the world is a must for any Gentle Giant fan out there.
The KC tour box is nice because I don't have all the new remasters by Steven Wilson, so this is kind of a "best of bonus tracks"...
I've just discovered the McDonald and Giles album. It's fun!
I've bought all the Neal albums + KaLIVEoscope on the cyber-monday sale (Radiant). Great stuff at a great price!
Thanks to wowie for Rubblebucket!

Finally, in January 2015:

Archive - Restriction - 2015
Louis-Jean Cormier - Le treizième étage - 2012
Hiromi - Brain - 2004
Karkwa - Le pensionnat des établis - 2003
Karkwa - Les tremblements s'immobilisent - 2005
Karkwa - Live - 2012
King Crimson - Live at the Orpheum [CD/DVD-A] - 2015
The King's Singers - The Beatles connection - 1986
Lisa LeBlanc - Lisa LeBlanc - 2012
Motorpsycho - Demon box (Deluxe Edition) [4CD/DVD] - 1993
Anthony Phillips - Harvest of the heart [5CD] - An anthology - 2014

The new Archive is pretty good. Nearly prog.
Cormier is a great Quebec singer-songwriter. Nice music AND lyrics.
The second Hiromi album, Brain, is not her best, but not her worst.
Karkwa is an alternative (sometimes Radiohead-ish) band from Quebec.
The new KC live is NOT very good. But very short!
The Beatles connection is a SPLENDID album: a vocal-only tribute to the Fab Four.
Lisa Leblanc is one of a kind! Music is some "trash-folk" (trash for the lyrics, not the music). Sounds like an angry Joni Mitchell... but I like it!
Demon Box is not my favourite MP album, but this boxset has a lot to offer...
Harvest of the heart was not a must for me because I have almost everything from AP, but there were enough bonus stuff (and remastering) on it to give it a go.

Phhhhew!

And now.... in February.... (to be continued)
